MW_S09: TIG Welding Sign-off

Looking to step up your metalworking game? Then enter the art of Tungsten Inert Gas welding! This class is a comprehensive crash-course through the core concepts of TIG welding and the prerequisite sign-off class for independent use of our machine in the metalworking shop.

Sign off: TIG Welder

Safety/Dress code: Students must wear natural fiber clothing (cotton or wool), closed-toe shoes (ideally made with natural materials). Tie back long hair. Long pants highly recommended as well as breathing protection. The instructor recommends the 3M Rugged Comfort Quick Latch Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6501QL (about $28) with the 2297 respirator cartridges (about $13), or the Miller LPR-100.  [Note that these respirators come in multiple sizes.]

Prerequisite: With welding, sooner or later, you are going to need to cut or shape the metal. This is why we require Metal Shop Basic sign-off for all independent welders.

If you take the welding sign-off before the Basic sign-off class, we welcome members at Metal Shop Mondays where you can improve your skills under supervision. Both this sign-off and Metal Shop Basic sign-off are required to use the welder independently (without supervision).

Note: If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, that is a safety violation and you will not receive a refund.
